Description

Reading is a fantastic city at the heart of the Thames Valley, with huge potential. As a progressive Council, we are absolutely focused upon improving the way we deliver services to our residents and ensuring that everyone who lives, works and visits Reading, can share in the benefits of a successful city of green spaces, smart technology and high economic growth. This key post within our Senior Leadership Team, will be pivotal to realising our potential.

As our new Assistant Director for Legal and Democratic Services, as well as the Council’s Monitoring Officer, you will provide expert legal advice to our elected members and senior officers. You will also manage the successful Joint Legal Team, which provides legal services on behalf of the six Unitary Authorities across Berkshire. Your leadership and experience in corporate governance will support the Council in improving service delivery and information management. As a member of the corporate management team, you will play a key role in transforming our organisational culture, ensuring our ‘Team Reading’ values are lived and embedded.

We are looking for a candidate with senior legal experience in Local Government but more specifically, you will be resilient and principled with a ‘can do’ approach and the ability to offer clear advice. You will be ambitious and driven, with a desire to develop your career in an exciting and dynamic environment.
